Avoca is a beautiful 150-year-old 5000-hectare guest farm situated in the mountainous area of Barkly East in the Eastern Cape.

Early settlers were responsible for surveying the entire district in 1861, and given the choice of any farm, they decided that this was the loveliest of them all. As you look at the stunning views, you can understand why – Avoca and Snowdon peaks tower overhead, and waterfalls cascade down into valley streams.

Since those early settlers, the same family still owns the Avoca farm. Today Geoff Orpen is well known for his quality wool-producing sheep and breeding stud Sussex cattle and stud Dormer sheep.

We pride ourselves in providing a flexible service and farm-style accommodation, including various activities like hiking, Trout fishing (access to your own 12 km stretch of pristine private water), mountain biking, swimming and most importantly of all… Relaxing! 

Avoca Millerd Mountain Lodge is situated in an idyllic setting approximately 60km from the Tiffindell ski resort, 60km from the village of Rhodes and 36km from the town of Barkly East.

We offer accommodation to large groups of friends, families, and couples who want to “get away” from the mad rush of city life.
